 Presidents message

I’m back for another term! Those words may provide a ray for hope for some or a cause for serious despair given today’s political climate.Nevertheless, as your President and with our new Board, our intent is to address the causes that affect our industry regardless of ‘which side of the fence’ they belong. Did you know that our PAC donations are almost split 50-50 between Republicans and Democrats? I think the assumption is that we lean towards the party most in control, but that’s not the case. Legislators from both sides are friends of AAHU, TAHU [state] and NAHU [national].

The legislative environment looks very intriguing for 2019-2020. Our role at AAHU it is to provide legislative updates with timely content and education. Our goal this year it is to engage with members, non-members, and legislators to provide opportunities to stay informed, learn, socialize and have some fun.

If you are currently a member, I suggest you get acquainted with our new Board by attending an event. We have an excellent slate with some new faces, and we want to get to know you better. We have an event scheduled most months, and this year, we will continue to have regular luncheons as well as social events where you earn CE credit and network with others.

If you are not a member, I suggest you evaluate the benefits of AAHU and our integration with TAHU and NAHU at the state and national level. Your dues will fund many legislative initiatives that either support or protect your livelihood. Without representation, we have no clear path to protecting our industry.  AAHU is not just a place to have a decent meal and get a CE credit.  We would like a chance to prove that and show you why your membership is worth over $7,000 annually.

To all, we welcome your comments and questions. We intend to serve the local Austin Chapter well and include some fun events along the way.

 Kenneth Walker    AAHU President 2018/2020
