July's Luncheon & Education
Guest Speaker, Eric D. Johnson
Luncheon Topic: 1-Hour of free CE
Health Literacy: What You Don’t Know CAN Hurt You
We’ve all seen it – that “deer in the headlights” look we so often get when we even mention the word “insurance” to a group of employees. It’s as if we’re speaking Greek – and for many of our clients, we might as well be. It turns out that nearly 50% of the population suffers from what experts call “low health literacy”. This means that they may have trouble understanding prescriptions, appointment slips, informed consent documents, health education materials, and yes, even insurance benefits.
The purpose of this course is to draw attention to a very widespread problem that many agents may not have known existed – and more importantly, to provide you with some suggestions that may help you communicate more effectively with your clients. As a bonus, we’ll tell you how increased attention to this one issue could help solve the health care crisis.
After Luncheon Topic ($15 cost): 1-Hour of CE
Consumer Empowered Health Plans: A How-To Guide
With the growing popularity of consumer-directed health plans and a rising number of uninsured Americans, a significant percentage of the population has found itself without predictable, first-dollar copays for their routine health care services. At first glance, this seems like a bad thing – it certainly creates a problem for consumers, who must now figure out how to pay for needed health care services out of their own pockets. Fortunately, in a capitalistic economy, when the consumer has a problem, the market steps in and delivers a solution. And that’s exactly what it’s done in the health care arena.
In this course, you’ll learn about a number of these private market solutions – solutions that can ease the pain of having to pay “retail prices”. Attendees will leave the course with a better understanding about what consumerism really means and will be armed with tools and resources that can help their clients use their plans effectively.
